Scarborough Boatworks 72 Custom Sportfish Sold By United Yacht Sales

Described as the ultimate tournament-ready custom sportfishing yacht, Scarborough Boatworks, founded by Ricky Scarborough Junior, certainly has the longstanding reputation to build such an incredible vessel. Launched in January 2023, this 72-footer was hull #14 for the custom builder from Wanchese, North Carolina.

The new Caterpillar C32B 2,400HP engines were chosen for the Scarborough 72 specifically for their top end speed and cruising speed. “At 2,050 rpm, we saw a fast cruising speed of 38 knots with a 90 percent load burning 110 gph per side,” according to a test by Marlin Magazine. “As we dropped back to an ­economical cruise, we saw 32 knots at 1,750 rpm with an 80 percent load burning 80 gph per side. Dropping the ­hammers to wide-open ­throttle (2,230 rpm), (the 72) rocketed close to 44 knots and burned 127 gph per side.”

Additionally, the engine room of the Scarborough 72 features 6-foot high ceilings for easy maintenance. There are twin 27kW CAT generators, twin FCI watermakers, Electrosea Clearline system, and a Seakeeper 26.

The fighting cockpit of the Scarborough 72 validates this sportfish as an absolute battle-wagon, just as much as it appeals to the guests on board that want to watch the action from the comfortable mezzanine. There is ample space in the cockpit for your team to move around quickly while fighting a fish from the Release Marine Trillion fighting chair. Other notable cockpit features include a freezer box under the step, a convertible live-well/fish box in the transom, additional in-deck live-wells, hydraulic outriggers, and an ice chipper. There is a tackle station, cockpit shower, grill, and drink holders throughout the cockpit. The mezzanine seating area also has air conditioning.

Usually with a custom sportfish, it’s the flybridge, the cockpit, and the engine room that are most impressive. Step through the cockpit door into the salon of the Scarborough 72 and prepare to be amazed. The woodwork is obviously an attention-grabber, but the centerpiece of this space is the Brazilian Amazonite granite countertrop which is incredibly unique.

The customized rod storage room (below) is something dreams are made of.
